I'm Jesse Sutherland, a seasoned web developer (and so much more!). I live with my family in Montreal, Quebec, Canada with our two cats Mando and Mia. Yes, Mando is named after the Mandalorian - we like Star Wars. I really like using the web and have worked on websites for about 25 years now. Astounding really. I started doing this as a hobby when I was in highschool back in good old Hamilton, Ontario, where I was raised and then became a 'pro' when I was in university here in Montreal.
I'm currently writing this on a shaky VIA Rail train, over very spotty wifi as the beautiful Canadian winter landscape slides past. I should probably admire that and relax a bit more honestly but trying to work on a VIA Rail journey is very much a 'central Canada' experience so here we are.
But enough about that. You came here to read about websites and web developers. In light of that, here's some information that usually fills this type of space:
I've been trying some fun things to build this site and keep it as close to the platform as possible with minimal CSS while trying some new things.
Htmx - to handle loading, structure and transitions with HTML while supporting fragments and again, keeping things very minimal.
CSS - vanilla CSS, fun with @scope - I think using @scope is a powerful feature that should allow some very small, standard CSS 'bundles' in the future.
Here's some of the things I've learned about and/or used extensively in the last quarter century or so.
So hopefully that gives you a sample of what I'm all about. Soon I think I'll add a blog section so there should be more regular updates and content. In the meantime, feel free to reach out or follow me on BlueSky.
